On the afternoon of July 14, over 20 volunteers from different positions came to the nursing home in their spare time despite the scorching sun. Some volunteers also brought their kids who were in summer holiday. The arrival of volunteers was warmly received by the elderly.

In the meeting room, the children drew cute paintings on fans and gave them as gifts to the elderly, and showed their talents one after another. The whole process was filled with laughter. Then the volunteers visited the elderly in the rooms, doing manicure for them, wiping their faces, and providing them with liquid talcum, towels and other supplies for cooling. Many elderly people held the hands of the volunteers, asked them to sit down and take rest, and chatted with them. Some enthusiastic old people even used "Candy bars" to express their gratitude, stuffing snacks in the volunteers’ hands. An old man who was a fan of chess had nobody to play chess with due to his long stay in the nursing home immediately started playing chess with a volunteer to satisfy his "Craving for playing chess". Before departure, the volunteers reluctantly bid farewell to the elderly, and said that they would definitely come back if there was an opportunity in the future.

"Chess is a battle of wits with countless tactics and ideas"

Volunteer playing chess with the elderly, learning from each other

Through this activity, many volunteers felt that these lovely old people may not lack the material care, but they desired spiritual care in their heart. It may be just an activity for the staff; but for the elderly, it was a sweet period of time. We would like to start from the insignificant companion, to plant the seeds of love in the bottom of our heart, promote the traditional virtues of respect for the elderly, and call on all walks of life to pay more attention to the elderly population!
